yeah i know i say this a lot (i also say that a lot too)... but i really want to start another music project. i still have three months before my birthday and even though this will be my busiest school schedule yet, i feel like i have this gaping chasm that i have yet to fulfill. i should really get my thoughts together and scrape up whatever passion, motivation and inspiration i have to pour into this project. i want to make an EP before i turn 20 as the last hurrah of my teenage years.
the schematics:
drums, guitars, bass. loop and delay pedal. i plan to model my project after the many post-rock influences i have and more specifically the repetitious, playful riffings of the mercury program and the ambient droning and simple chord progressions of mogwai. i plan on using the concept of basso continuo from the Baroque era of classical music merely by function because of the nature of the loop pedal. there's also a question of whether or not i want to incorporate idee fixe into the mix. as much as i abhor program music, i think idee fixe is a neat musical structure that plays on variations of the same musical idea to represent some symbol. this might be possible when tinkering around on a loop pedal and would also contribute to cohesiveness in any given song.
this may be all well and good on paper, but i need to push myself to attempt any of these things. i have all the equipment and ideas needed to make a great project, now i just have to apply them and actually create something new.
wish me luck,

hm.
I'm still polishing up a new song in the works. It's still heavily influenced by Don Ross and Antoine Dufour, but there are also elements of math rock because of the unintended tempo changes throughout the song. I feel like I still need to work on transitions and variations to keep it sounding engaging the entire song, but I guess I can't do everything. I dunno... I'm horrible with deadlines, but I'm giving myself one for some time next week.

motivation
guess i'm lacking in that haha. screw every work-in-progress i have. i'm just going to practice my chops and forget the rest. if a new riff happens, i'll let it take its own direction.

unintended hiatus
During my three week stay in Hong Kong, I've been able to relax in a different setting. Though I might be a little rusty when I pick up the guitar after I return home, I believe that my drumming has greatly improved. I didn't realize the capacity of how much left I have yet to learn and practice until taking these few drumming lessons. I learned how to use paradiddles around the kit and was given five or six pages of coordination exercises. I can't wait to get home and practice them.
I also purchased a loop pedal which will probably contribute enormously towards my songwriting process. MAYBE I CAN BE LIKE LIAM FINN AWWYEAHHhhh.

things are slowing down...
Haven't really done anything new since my last post because I've been either busy, lazy or out haha. But I did repost my guitar videos on another youtube channel with better audio quality.
